If you’re looking for the perfect place to host your holiday party, ask at Press Club in San Francisco about their special tasting and pairing, called the "Sommelier Tasting Progression."
The Press Club has been a downtown happy hour staple for a few years now. The focus on wines is consistent and dedicated at the popular San Francisco establishment, but something different has been bubbling up since this fall.
Under the inspired guidance of General Manger and beer master Kristian Cosentino, Press Club has rolled out a new beer menu that showcases rare specialty microbrews and local craft beers. At the same time, a menu that was once panned by Yelpers has undergone a major facelift, and the results are scrumptious. To show off their new brews and eats, Press Club now offers a series of tasting menus that can be paired with either wine or beer. We sampled a flight of the visiting Almanac beers to see if they could hold their own with the food…and did they ever:
The sampling of Almanac’s farm-to-bottle beers included the delightful Honey Saison (brewed with local honey from Marshall Farms and ginger root), the spring seasonal Biere de Mars (spiced with Bay-Area baby fennel), and the Fresh Hop Ale (sounding notes of citrus and tropical fruit).
The beers were perfectly paired with:
A salad of grilled little gems, silky avocado, crunchy roasted corn, and the smoothest corn panna cotta you’re likely to come across.
The gravlax was an exquisite combination of sweet heirloom summer melon and spicy Fresno pepper.
You can’t miss this one: the savory Pitman Farms duck and Pinot Noir sausage is balanced with a sweet cherry duck jus and accompanied by local stonefruit and a crispy quinoa fritter.
If you’re ready to pair up with the delicious offerings at Press Club, you can now make a reservation online through www.SeatMe.com or by calling Press Club at 415-744-5000. Press Club is located at 20 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA; www.pressclubsf.com.
