By Emma Krasov, photography by Yuri KrasovHyatt Regency San Francisco, located in the Embarcadero Center across from the historic Ferry Building, has the Guinness Book of World Records’ Largest Atrium Lobby in the world – 17-story high, and takes full advantage of it. A wall of 300,000 cascading Christmas lights in the Hyatt lobby cuts right above the rows of bare twigs and snowy pines, and creates that special atmosphere that comes only with winter holidays.A 30-foot Christmas tree with a shining star at its top towers over Nutcrackers and teddy bears while snowflake images are projected on the walls.Sparkly reindeer gather around the dramatic lobby sculpture Eclipse, by Charles O. Perry.
Preparing for the holiday season, the hotel spared no expense in decorating, entertaining, and otherwise enticing its guests and tenants.
A lavish kick-off party in the famous lobby included a fashion show from Saffron Rare Threads, with designer Priya Saraswati and a constellation of her models.
And, since a year ago, San Francisco city dwellers also know where to go for snow in their not-a-single-white-Christmas city. The snow falls in the lobby of Hyatt Regency at 1:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 8 p.m. daily through December 31.
The ice is found at the city’s largest Embarcadero Holiday Skating Rink, adjacent to the hotel, and open day and night through January 2, 2012 – Sunday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
