Info Post
By Emma Krasov, photography by Yuri KrasovDonato Enoteca in Redwood City, ristorante eccellente, headed by the Executive Chef Donato Scotti, hosted an appreciative crowd of gourmands and oenophiles on Saturday for the largest in the Peninsula/South Bay area wine tasting holiday event featuring 100 artisan wines from the chef’s native Italy.“Enoteca 100” paired festive sparkling wines, full-bodied reds and crisp whites with fresh ingredient-driven chef’s preparations of bruschetta, salumi, prosciutto, risotto, ravioli, Sonoma quails, and a whole roasted pig.The list of rare Italian wines, available for purchase and orders, sounded like music – from Bele Casel Prosecco to Terlano Bianco, to La Spinetta Barbera d’Asti, to La Maialana Chianti Classico – with each new taste ascending to a celebratory crescendo. The wines were provided by Donato Enoteca and a number of distributors, like Southern Wine & Spirits of Northern California, Tosco Wines, Tartaglione Fine Wines, Vinity Wine Company, A. G. Ferrari Foods, and others.

Following his acclaimed style of simple preparations with sophisticated results, Chef Donato put up a variety of quality meats to be seasoned to taste with pink salt and parsley pesto by the guests. Rich Italian cheeses were accompanied by quince preserve jazzed up with mustard oil.And speaking of jazz, live entertainment for the event was splendidly delivered by Quarteto Guarana, performing jazz, funk, and Brazilian tunes in the lounge area of the restaurant. On a regular day, Donato Enoteca, with its delectable food, boutique-production wines, elegant ambience and attentive service turns a weeknight dinner into a holiday feast. Its holiday wine tasting event turned out to be a resounding success and a great start for the season of ultimate indulgence. Donato Enoteca is located at 1041 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
