Info Post
By Emma KrasovComing from the heart of the Borderies appellation in Southwestern France, and strongly present in the U.S. market since last summer, Camus Cognac now brings to the discerning American consumers two vintage bottlings, 1971 and 1989, in treasured limited editions.

Lucky to be among the first Californians to taste the rarity, I was pleased to discover this very compelling blast from the past.

Camus International Ambassador Fréd Dezauzier and Camus U.S. Market Sales Director Manny Burnichon presented the brand and its many splendid incarnations at an elegant tasting event at Michael Mina Restaurant in San Francisco.

First, we indulged in caramel-crème aroma and perfect roundness of the Camus 1989 Vintage Cognac, composed of two Petit Champagne kinds – velvety-smooth, with flowery and spicy notes.

Then, Camus 1971 Vintage Cognac, from the Grand Champagne growth, charmed the audience with its pure amber color and its silky sweetness with hints of licorice and jasmine.

And then, there was a surprise – a delightful Camus Borderies XO, “pride of the house,” coming exclusively from the Camus family vineyard, estate bottled, and fragrant of candid violets.

Founded in 1863, and now remaining the last independent family-owned Cognac house, the company is managed by Cyril Camus who follows the time-honored family tradition of quality and perfection.

Camus cognacs are well-loved and appreciated all over the world and marked by numerous international awards and recognitions. While rare labels are better consumed undiluted, some are excellent for cocktails and add elegance and richness to a special occasion drink.

Please enjoy these cocktail recipes from the House of Camus:
